DIGITAL ADVANTAGES

What are the advantages of digital photography for my headshot?
The biggest advantage is seeing you photos immediately. During the session, we will pause periodically and view your proofs on the monitor. Our photographer will edit the images with your input and make helpful suggestions. This makes for a relaxed environment, since you don't have to worry about how you look or how the photos are turning out. You will leave the session knowing we have created the headshot that is right for you. Another advantage is that the same photos are available in either color or black & white.

Can I get my headshots retouched?
You bet, basic retouching is included with our theatrical and commercial headshot session. This includes removing blemishes, lightening facial lines and teeth, and removing stray hairs. We go for a natural look, so the retouching isn't noticeable. We can do more extensive retouching if necessary at an additional charge. Retouching with film photography is more expensive and requires additional time.

THE HEADSHOT SESSION

What is included in your headshot package?
We have different packages to suit your needs. Our basic headshot is 1.5 hours in the studio and two looks. Since we are shooting digitally, you are not limited to a certain number of shots. We take as many as we need. During your session, we will stop and view the images on the monitor so you can see how you are coming across on camera. We will discuss what is working for you and shoot some more photos. This is particularly good to make sure that your hair and clothes look great. Images that you do not like are eliminated and we will save the final 12 photos you like the best. You will leave the session with a proof sheet showing your final choices. Also included with your session is retouching on one photo.

How should I prepare for my photo session?
It is best if you give some thought to the type of look you want to project in your headshot. That might depend on what type of roles you see yourself playing, or the types of roles you feel you might be cast in. Make it a look that you can reproduce when you are called in for an audition. It can be helpful to look at other people's headshots or pictures in magazines to see what you like and what you don't like. Feel free to bring photos along as a reference. Natural and well groomed are always best.

Pay particular attention to grooming. If you are going to have your hair trimmed, please do it several days before your appointment. If you have it cut, allow at least a week. Men with afternoon appointments may need to shave mid-day to avoid beard shadow. You may want to have your hair and makeup done professionally. One of the most important preparations is to get a good night's sleep.

What clothes are best for my session?
It is always good to bring a few more clothes than you think you need to the session. Then, we can help you decide what will look best in your photos. A simple, classic look is best. Your clothes shouldn't wrinkle easily and must fit well. Oversized clothes wrinkle and make you look heavier in the pictures. Solid colors are best. Shirts should have flattering necklines and long sleeves. Avoid: loud patterns, busy fabrics, or anything that will draw attention away from your face. Black is OK, but colors that will read as medium to dark gray are best. White or light pastel shirts worn by themselves tend to look washed out. A layered look is good, such as a jacket to wear over a t-shirt. If you have an outfit you like that doesn't fit these guidelines, feel free to bring it anyway, since we will be able to view it on the monitor to see if it works.
